Capacitor info
All the electrolytic capacitors I sell have positive and negative ends. The end with the black rubber insulator is the positive end and the bare aluminum end is negative. On bias capacitors the positive end goes to ground. This is because the voltage on a fixed bias circuit is negative. In other words, the bias voltage is more negative than chassis ground, so the positive goes to ground and the negative goes to the negative voltage bias circuit.
If you have a capacitor that is not listed above, you can use a value that is closest to what you have. For example: you need a 150p cap - use a 120p cap. If You have a multi can cap with 10uf/20uf/40uf x 450 volt, you can pick out individual caps and make a cap can pack. Pick out a 10/500v, 20/500v and a 40/500v cap to make your cap pack. You can also use the 40x20x20x20 can listed above. Larger filter caps help the bass response. You do not have to match your filter caps exactly, other values will work just fine. Many multi section cap cans are not available any more. Most manufacturers ordered exactly what they wanted stuffed inside a can from the cap manufacturer. These were not usually off the shelf standard caps. Going higher on the voltage is better than going lower on the voltage rating. You may not even need a 600 volt rating. If the amp is working, measure the actual voltage on the cap as the amp is running. If you only have 200 volts on the cap, you can use a 400 volt cap. There are some odd values that you will run into, and it does not hurt to go a little larger on most caps. For example, you have a 30uf/450 volt cap, use a 40uf/500volt cap. The 70uf/350v caps used on older Fenders are not made anymore. Use the 100uf/350v Sprague or Illinois caps listed above.In most amps, you can use a 20/500v or 22/500v in place of a 20/600.
How to decipher the cap code:
Example, 472 is a 4 and a 7 with 2 zeros after the 47 = 4700
Now go six places to the left, adding zeros in front if necessary = .004700
Drop the two zero's on the right end = .0047
472 = .0047
The library page has lots more capacitor info
